Machine Translation (MT)

Most people associate machine translation with Google Translate, which, like most other automatic translation tools, initially relied on Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). SMT broke down sentences into phrases, translated them, and reassembled them using statistical analysis. However, the accuracy and quality of such translations were often inadequate.

A major advancement in machine translation is Neural Machine Translation (NMT), which uses deep learning technology. Deep learning is a form of machine learning inspired by neural networks in the human brain. The application of deep learning in Natural Language Processing (NLP) has revolutionized machine translation.

NMT considers the entire sentence context, significantly improving morphology and syntax. It is also much more predictable. NMT technology is advancing rapidly, supporting more languages and continuously improving translation quality.

The next stage in translation evolution involves Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI translation encompasses a broader range of technologies beyond NMT, integrating NLP, speech recognition, sentiment analysis, text summarization, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Named Entity Recognition (NER), and adaptive learning systems for comprehensive language solutions.

Free machine translation engines like Google Translate and DeepL have limitations on text length and do not guarantee data security or confidentiality. Therefore, they should not be used for translating confidential or personal data.

Neural machine translations should only be used for private, internal, or less critical translations where general understanding is sufficient. For all other cases, we recommend using MTPE (Machine Translation Post-Editing) services.

Machine Translation at BTD Services

We do not use free machine translation engines, as they are not suitable for professional specialist translations. This is both because they are primarily designed for general texts and because they do not ensure data confidentiality (any data entered is used to train the models).

Instead, we rely on an innovative, specialized MT engine designed specifically for fields such as technology, medicine, and law.

Thanks to its self-adaptation feature — which involves both real-time learning from user translations and leveraging existing translation memories — our solution ensures that the output is perfectly tailored to each client’s needs.

High-quality machine translation combined with professional post-editing allows you to:

  • reduce translation costs by 20%–30%, while maintaining a quality level comparable to fully human translations; and

  • significantly shorten turnaround times, enabling us to deliver your projects faster and handle larger volumes in less time.
